Actually see change over time in a Darwin’s thinking: Multiple editions of Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species”

We often think of scientific ideas, such as Darwin’s theory of evolution, as fixed notions that are accepted as finished. In fact, Darwin’s On the Origin of Species evolved over the course of several editions he wrote, edited, and updated during his lifetime. The first English edition was approximately 150,000 words and the sixth is a much larger 190,000 words. In the changes are refinements and shifts in ideas — whether increasing the weight of a statement, adding details, or even a change in the idea itself.

Me ha ocurrido algo espectacular. Siguiendo el siguiente tweet de @ivalladt  (Matemáticos ofrecen una solución elegante a un problema evolutivo http://bit.ly/aUy2Wk) he llegado a la fuente en Physorg un servicio de noticias científicas y tecnológicas. 

Comienzo a leer el artículo que estaba muy interesante y al bajar un poco descubro en la página el siguiente anuncio 

Y no lo podías creer “El muro de Berlin de la evolución está a punto de caer. Leer más” Y por supuesto, leí más. (Aquí está la captura de la página de Physorg completa)

Al seguir el enlace me encontré con tanto material, que no podría resumir en estas líneas. Os dejo algunos de los “highlights”:

• Evolution really did happen, living things really do have a common ancestor, and the earth really is 4.5 billion years old. But the way evolution really works has little in common with Darwin’s theory. Darwinism is in deep trouble and it’s too late save it.
• All that needs to happen is for the right 3-5 scientists to step forward and expose the evolution industry for what it is…. and it’s not a question of “IF”, it’s only a question of WHEN. Darwinism has about 2-5 years left.
  
• The real crime is that the “evolutionists” never bothered to tell you how evolution REALLY works. The evolutionary process is neither random nor accident. It’s purposeful, it’s pre-programmed, it’s so ingenious and elegant it takes your breath away.
  

Y en este punto se pone mejor aún. Dice que el paradigma evolutivo que nos va a demostrar ha valido el Nobel en 1983. Y ahí pensé, claro esto debe ser porqué el tipo este debe vivir de dar charlas y con la misma idea hará esta web. En una charla te dicen cuál es el premio Nobel de Medicina de 1983 y no lo sabe nadie claro. Pero si vas a NobelPrize.org puedes ver que se trata de Barbara McClintock, reconocida por su aporte a la genética: organización de los genes en cromosomas y cómo estos genes al cambiar de posición pueden alterar su función. Por supuesto no hay nada en la web que esté ni cerca de hablar de algo parecido.

No hay mucho más que decir, cada frase es un chiste o una carcajada. El vendedor de coches este, se posiciona por encima de todos los científicos del último siglo y medio y encima quiere distanciarse de los creacionistas para darnos su versión de la Evolución, como ingeniero en comunicaciones cristiano, y por tanto imparcial.

Realmente es una joya del surrealismo.
